Parents Involvement

Our team of staff are always pleased to talk to parents about their children and any input is always welcome. We hope to report to parents of their child's progress throughout their time with us. Younger children are given a 'Daily Activity' sheet showing what the child has done on any particular day. The older children are given a Weekly sheet outlining their activities.

Pre - school children

The pre-school children in our care have daily educational sessions as part of their programme to ensure a high standard of education is met through the
early learning goals laid down by DfEE (Department of Early years Education).
This will enable us to be part of the Early Years Development Partnership
that fund grants for the education for 3-4 year olds. The early learning
goals are as follows:
- Mathematics
- Language and Literacy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the world
- Creative Development
- Personal and Social Development
- Physical Development

Settling your child

A pre-start visit is usually a good idea and helps both your child and you
become acquainted with the nursery surrounding, routine, staff and other
children. However, we will discuss with you the best way of settling your
child into the nursery. A well-loved toy or comfort from home may help
settle your child into the new environment. There is the opportunity for the
younger children who stay all day to have a rest after lunch.

Collection of children

A photograph system is in operation to help the staff recognise people
authorised to collect your child. However, children will not be permitted to
leave the nursery premises with anyone not authorised before hand to collect
them even if the nursery staffs recognises that person. Please take special
note of this as it could cause problems for all concerned. Persons under the
age of 18 are not permitted to collect children from the nursery.

Fire and First Aid

Fire drills are carried out on a regular basis. If accidents do occur, staff
with First Aid training and equipment are readily available. The nursery
staff will inform parents of any injury their child receives during their
nursery day, however minor it may be. The accident will be recorded in the
accident book. Parents will be asked to sign the accident book on arrival to
collect their child. Nursery staff must be informed of any injury a child
receives off nursery premises.

Personal properties

All clothing and articles belonging to your child must be clearly labelled
with his/her name in particular coats, cardigans. The nursery accepts no
responsibilities for belongings left on the premises. Parents/Guardians are
required to ensure children do not bring jewellery, money or any other
valuables to the nursery as it may cause distraction. As a precaution a
change of clothing should be provided and left at the nursery. Loose
articles of clothing with no buckles and belts allows your child to dress
themselves and encourages them to be independent, as they progress through the nursery. Soft shoes or slippers should be worn indoors, especially in winter when boots or heavy outdoor shoes are needed.

Break

All meals are freshly prepared on the premises daily and are nutritional and
well balanced. We are happy to co-operate with any special dietary
requirement your child may have. Breaks are as follows:

Breakfast: 8:00 - 9:00am a choice of cereals, toast with jam
Break: 10:00 - 10:30am fruits, biscuits,

Juice or milk
Lunch: 12:00 - 1:00pm two course meal (varies on a day to day basis)
Tea: 3:30 - 4:00pm two course meal
(varies on a day to day basis)

Safety

Safety is of paramount importance to "Playhouse Day Nursery"; therefore we
have taken many steps to safeguard your child as shown below.

Outside

External doors and gates are kept locked at all times to ensure safety.

Equal Opportunity

We are committed to the equal opportunity policy to ensure that there is no
discrimination on the grounds of ethnic or cultural origin, religion, family
status, disability, race, colour, gender and class. Positive attitude is
implemented on the child through praise, toys, equipment and books to
encourage their self-esteem and to develop awareness of others. We provide
activities and use resources to celebrate cultural events such as Diwali,
Christmas, Eid, Chinese New Year and Carnival time to help children
appreciate and value each others similarities and differences.

Comments

We welcome comments and feedback from our parents as we place great value in working in partnership with them. If you wish to speak to anyone about any concerns or worry you may have in relation to your child or our practice, I can assure you that you will be listened to and your views will be taken seriously.

Any general enquiries regarding your child may be discussed with management.
Any other enquiries or complaints should be given in writing or verbally to
the Manager. We will do our very best to solve your enquiry to your
satisfaction as soon as possible.

Sickness and medication

Please note that children must not attend the nursery for a period of at
least 24 hours, following any period of vomiting, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis
or any other contagious diseases. This must be strictly adhered in order to
stop infection spreading. In the event of a child becoming ill during the
nursery session, the parents/guardian will be informed immediately and may be requested to collect their child. No medicine of any description will be
given to a child unless prescribed by a G.P which will be administered by the
nursery manager, for which you will be required to complete a consent form.
